Aluminum anode that can replace traditional zinc anodes. Aluminum anodes have some advantages over traditional zinc anodes. The alloy used to make the aluminum anode has a higher negative charge than zinc, as well as a longer service life, which means the anode is more active over a longer period. In total, an aluminum anode produces about 70% more Amp/Hours over its lifetime than a comparable traditional zinc anode. As a side benefit, you cut the weight in half and save a little on the price.
NB: There must not be any physical connection between aluminum and zinc anodes, as the aluminum anode will protect the zinc anode. Therefore, all anodes on, for example, drives and outboard motors must be either aluminum or zinc. Unlike zinc anodes, which can only be used in saltwater, aluminum can be used in both saltwater and brackish water. Many manufacturers now use aluminum anodes as standard on their new engines and boats, for example Mercruiser, Mercury, Yanmar, Selva, Torqeedo, Princess and Sunseeker.
6 GOOD REASONS TO CHOOSE ALUMINUM ANODES:
- Cadmium-free: Without cadmium, a heavy metal that is harmful to the environment
- Lasts longer: 10% longer service life than a zinc anode
- Better protection: Provides better protection than a zinc anode
- For saltwater and brackish water: Used in both saltwater and brackish water (zinc anodes are only for saltwater)
- Lighter: 2.5 times lighter than zinc anodes
- Aluminum boats: Ideal for protecting boats with aluminum hulls
