For small batteries (under 40 Ah, e.g. MC or small cars): 10A is too powerful and can damage the battery. Use a smaller charger instead (0.8A–4A). For standard car batteries around 60–90 Ah, 10A provides fast and safe charging. For larger consumer batteries (100 Ah+), 10A can be used, but charging will take longer than with a 15A charger.

Look at the battery capacity (Ah). Choose a charger with around 10% of the battery capacity in charging current.

The maximum capacity for most lead-acid batteries is around 20% of the Ah. A charger that is too small will result in a very long charging time, while a charger that is too large can damage the battery.
