A terminal is used to hold the end of a wire rope so that the wire can only move in one direction. It can, for example, be used functionally to secure a structure, or architecturally for display purposes. In addition, they can be used to secure a mast in so-called shrouds, to stabilize the mast and thus the boat.

Terminals are swaged onto the wire rope, i.e. using a tool, the terminal is crimped around the wire rope to secure it to an anchoring point.
