A terminal is used to secure the end of a steel wire so that the wire can move in only one direction. It can, for example, be used functionally to fasten a structure, or architecturally for display purposes. In addition, they can be used to secure a mast in so-called stays, to stabilize the mast and thereby the boat.

Terminals are normally swaged onto the steel wire, meaning that with the help of a special tool, the terminal is crimped around the steel wire to secure it to an anchor point.

With toggle terminals, there is no need for a special tool. Instead, you unscrew the terminal, insert the wire, and screw it back together to secure the steel wire.
