A terminal is used to secure the end of a wire rope so that the wire can only move in one direction. It can, for example, be used functionally to secure a structure, or architecturally for display purposes. In addition, they can be used to secure a mast in so-called stays, to stabilize the mast and thus the boat.

Terminals are normally swaged onto the wire rope, meaning that a special tool is used to crimp the terminal onto the wire rope to secure it to an anchoring point.

With swage-free terminals, you do not need a special tool. Instead, you unscrew the terminal, insert the wire, and screw it back together to secure the wire rope.
