The capacity should be assessed based on the requirements onboard. This includes, for example, the number of outlets and whether toilets are connected to the freshwater system. A freshwater pressure pump works with a pressure switch that activates the pump if the pressure drops. The pressure drops when a tap is opened, and immediately after that the pump will start and deliver water. When the tap is closed, pressure in the hose rises and the pump will stop.

If you want to use a small amount of water without necessarily activating the pump, it can be an advantage to install an expansion tank in the system. In that case, water will be drawn from the tank first, without the pump needing to start until the pressure has dropped.
