The History of the Yacht Flag Highest resolution of 15 August 1865. Permission to fly the yacht flag, consisting of the Danish naval ensign with the letters YF in gold in the upper square nearest the staff, is granted upon application by the Ministry of Marine, but only for deck vessels. The application, which must be affixed with a stamp duty of 65 øre, must be accompanied by the vessel’s measurement certificate or certificate of nationality and registration. The yacht flag confers no privileges whatsoever on the vessel with regard to port and ship dues. Permission to fly the yacht flag, which is only valid until the vessel changes owner and must be kept on board and produced at the request of the competent authorities, is forfeited when the vessel is not used exclusively for pleasure sailing. In 1957, the requirement to apply for permission to fly the yacht flag was abolished.
