The History of the Yacht Flag The highest resolution of 15 August 1865. Permission to fly the yacht flag, which consists of the Danish naval ensign with the letters YF in gold in the upper quarter nearest the mast, is granted upon application by the Ministry of Marine, but only for decked vessels. The application, stamped with a fee of 65 øre, must be accompanied by the vessel's tonnage certificate or certificate of nationality and registration. The yacht flag confers no privileges whatsoever on the vessel with regard to port and ship dues. Permission to fly the yacht flag, which is valid only until the vessel changes owner and must be kept on board and shown on request to the relevant authorities, is forfeited when the vessel is not used exclusively for pleasure sailing. In 1957, the requirement to apply for permission to fly the yacht flag was abolished.
