How is the flag size calculated? For flagpoles, it is calculated that the flag's leading edge should measure 2/3 of the flagpole's height. There are no fixed rules for flag size, but we recommend the sizes below.
The History of the Yacht Flag Highest resolution of 15 August 1865. Permission to fly the yacht flag, consisting of the Danish naval ensign with the letters YF in gold in the upper square nearest the mast, is granted upon application by the Ministry of the Navy, but only for decked vessels. The application, which must be stamped with a fee of 65 øre, must be accompanied by the vessel's tonnage certificate or certificate of nationality and registration. The yacht flag confers no privilege whatsoever on the vessel with regard to port and ship dues. Permission to fly the yacht flag, which is only valid until the vessel changes owner and which must be kept on board and presented at the request of the relevant authorities, is forfeited when the vessel is not used exclusively for pleasure sailing. In 1957, the requirement to seek permission to fly the yacht flag was abolished.
